Specialist GP Services: Aviation and Diving Medicals

GoldCare Medical Centre offers two specialist medical assessment services that very few GPs in the Dandenong area provide.

Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME)

Dr Vasu is a Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME) authorised by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). This means he can conduct official medical examinations for pilots and aviation personnel seeking Class 1, Class 2, or Class 3 aviation medical certificates.

If you are a commercial pilot, private pilot, or student pilot in the Greater Dandenong and southeast Melbourne region, you can complete your required CASA medical at GoldCare without travelling to the city.

Underwater Medicine Examiner

GoldCare also provides medical fitness assessments for recreational and commercial divers. These assessments follow the Australian Diver Accreditation Scheme (ADAS) and Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine guidelines, ensuring divers are cleared safely before entering the water

Frequently asked questions

Is GoldCare Medical Centre accepting new patients?

Yes. GoldCare is currently accepting new patients. No referral is required. You can book an appointment by calling 03 8726 3855 or online at gcmcd.com.au. New patients should bring their Medicare card and any relevant medical documents to their first appointment.

Are telehealth consultations bulk-billed at GoldCare?

Yes. Eligible telehealth consultations are bulk billed for Medicare cardholders, in line with GoldCare's fully bulk billing model. Medicare telehealth eligibility conditions apply, particularly for patients without a prior in-person visit to the practice. Call reception to confirm your eligibility before booking.

What is MyMedicare, and should I enrol at GoldCare?

MyMedicare is the Australian Government's voluntary patient registration program. Enrolling links you to GoldCare as your regular GP practice and can improve access to certain Medicare-subsidised services over time, particularly for telehealth and chronic disease care. You can enrol through your myGov account. There is no cost. Our team can walk you through the process at your next visit.

Do you charge extra for scripts, referrals, or medical certificates?

Standard GP consultations, prescriptions, and referral letters issued during a bulk-billed consultation are covered by bulk billing. Some additional procedures, such as minor surgeries, DAME medicals, or diving assessments, may attract a separate fee. Reception will advise you of any additional costs before your appointment.

I don't have a Medicare card. Can I still see a GP at GoldCare?

Yes. Patients without a valid Medicare card can still consult a GP at GoldCare, though private fees will apply. Please contact our reception team on 03 8726 3855 to discuss private fee arrangements before booking.

Can I get a same-day GP appointment at GoldCare in Dandenong?

Same-day appointments are often available, subject to the day's schedule. Call us on 03 8726 3855 first thing in the morning for the best chance of a same-day slot. Walk-in patients are also welcome, though waiting times can vary.

What do I need to bring to my first appointment?

Bring your Medicare card, any concession or DVA card, a list of current medications, recent pathology or imaging results, and any relevant medical letters. Arriving five minutes early will allow time to complete your patient registration form.

How do I book a GP appointment at GoldCare Dandenong?

You can book online at gcmcd.com.au, call us on 03 8726 3855 during opening hours, or walk in. Online bookings are available around the clock. Phone bookings are available Monday to Friday, 9 AM–6 PM and Saturday, 9 AM–2:30 PM.

What happens if I need a specialist referral?

If your GP determines you need specialist care, a referral letter will be prepared during or after your consultation. Standard referrals are included in a bulk-billed consultation. Your GP will recommend appropriate specialists and explain the next steps. Electronic referrals (eReferrals) are used where available.
