Social Media Policy
1. Purpose
This policy outlines the standards and expectations for the responsible use of social media by employees, contractors, and representatives of GoldCare Medical (GCMCD).
It aims to protect the reputation, privacy, and professionalism of GCMCD, its staff, and patients while promoting accurate and respectful engagement online.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all employees, contractors, and third parties representing GoldCare Medical who use social media, including but not limited to:
• Facebook
• Instagram
• LinkedIn
• X (Twitter)
• YouTube
• Personal accounts where GCMCD is mentioned or represented
This includes both official GCMCD social media accounts (such as facebook.com/gcmcd.com.au) and personal accounts when referencing work,
colleagues, or patients.
3. Official Accounts
The following platforms are the official social media channels of GCMCD:
• Website: https://gcmcd.com.au/
• Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gcmcd.com.au
Only authorised staff members may post, manage, or respond to messages on these platforms. Access is restricted to designated personnel approved by management.
4. Professional Conduct
Employees must always represent GoldCare Medical in a professional, respectful, and lawful manner. When using social media (either personally or on behalf of GCMCD), individuals must:
• Uphold confidentiality of all patient information and internal matters.
• Avoid posting or sharing offensive, discriminatory, or defamatory content.
• Not engage in debates or arguments that may reflect negatively on the organisation.
• Obtain written consent before sharing any patient-related stories, images, or testimonials.
5. Privacy and Confidentiality
• All information obtained through employment at GCMCD is confidential.Disclosure of patient details, photographs, or identifiable information is strictly prohibited.
• Any breach of confidentiality, whether intentional or accidental, may result in disciplinary action.
6. Personal Social Media Use
Employees are free to use social media personally but must not:
• Represent personal opinions as those of GCMCD.
• Use GCMCD logos, branding, or imagery without approval.
• Post content that may harm the organisation’s reputation or patient trust.
If referencing the workplace, staff should:
“Ensure comments are respectful and maintain professional boundaries.”
Example disclaimer for personal accounts:
“Opinions expressed are my own and do not represent GoldCare Medical.”
7. Content Management and Monitoring
All posts published under GCMCD’s official accounts must:
• Reflect accurate, ethical, and evidence-based medical information.
• Maintain sensitivity towards patients and families.
• Avoid any language that could be interpreted as medical advice without consultation.
The Practice Manager or appointed Communications Officer will oversee:
• Approval of scheduled posts
• Responding to comments or inquiries
• Reporting or removing inappropriate content
8. Breaches and Disciplinary Action
Violations of this policy may result in:
• Formal warnings
• Suspension of access to social media platforms
• Disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment
Serious breaches involving patient confidentiality may also lead to legal action.
9. Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or as required to ensure compliance with:
• Australian Privacy Principles (APPs)
• AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) guidelines
• GoldCare Medical’s internal compliance requirements
